The outage shelf

What a household actually burns through a dark evening, counted in ounces and hours from our own labels.

Count in hours, not bottles

Labels on our lamps and kits list burn times up to 100 hours on a filling. Work out how many evenings of light you want on hand, divide by the hours a font holds, and the shelf sizes itself.

Three pieces make a shelf

A lamp, a bottle of oil and a spare wick cover a dark evening; matches make it four. Our emergency kits pack the pieces together so the shelf is done in one go.

Keep the oil in its own labeled bottle and read that label before the first light. The bottle knows the product better than any website does, including this one.

Where it lives

Pick one cupboard and keep the whole kit there, glass chimney included. An outage is a bad time to remember which room the wicks ended up in.
